things_to_doPear Tree Cottage is ideally located to sample the fabulous range of experiences that West Gippsland has to offer.

The Great Outdoors
Take some time to explore the national and state parks that are just a short drive away.

Mount Baw Baw offers year round experiences such as hiking, mountain biking and cross country skiing.

Walk along the historic Noojee trestle bridge which is the tallest surviving bridge of its type in Victoria and follow the historic railway line into Noojee.

If you like getting off the beaten track and learning about the rich history of the high country then we highly recommend a guided 4WD tour with Baw Baw Adventures. Baw Baw Adventures also offers deer hunting, trail riding and trout fishing trips. Fly fishing lessons can also be arranged for both novices and those looking to improve their technique.

For a more relaxed experience pack a picnic and head to Tarago Reservoir Park or marvel at the massive mountain ash at Glen Nayook

If you only do one outdoor activity then a visit to Toorongo Falls to really experience the wonder of a temperate rain forest would be the one to pick.

Pear Tree Cottage is also a great base for cyclists wanting to challenge the hardest mountain climb in Australia and also conveniently located next to the 10 kilometre long Rokeby to Neerim walking track.

Food and Wine
If you would like to enjoy a wonderful meal overlooking the green rolling pastures of West Gippsland you must try Jindivick Harvest Kitchen. Open for dinner on Friday and Saturday nights. Jindi Harvest is also open 10am to 4pm Thursday to Sunday.

For a great quality pub meal just 5 minutes away we recommend The Neerim South Hotel

Drop into Wild Dog Winery to try some first class wine accompanied by some of the best cheeses in Australia.

If tapas or paella is your thing then lunch or dinner amongst the vines at Brandy Creek Wines is the place for you.

Fancy a band and a great wood fired pizza in the middle of a working vineyard? Then head to Gipsy Creek Wines

If you are here on Sunday then we can also recommend taking in a band on the back veranda of The Noojee Hotel which overlooks the Latrobe River.

Just outside Noojee you can visit Piedmont Wines on your way to the Outpost Noojee for a drink and some honest pubfood in a toolshed.

For a fine dining experience we highly recommend Big Spoon Little Spoon in Warragul.

Farmers Markets and Local Produce
With a strong focus on locally grown and produced products you will find a farmers market within a short drive of Pear Tree Cottage every weekend from September to May. Some markets operate all year round. Details can be found on the Baw Baw Shire website.

Farmers markets are a wonderful place to sample the regional food and meet the people that produce it. In particular we recommend the Warragul Farmers Market and the Rokeby market.

Feel like some fish? Then drop by the Alpine Trout Farm and pick up some local trout or grab a rod and catch your own.

West Gippsland is home to some of Australia’s best known cheese producers such as Tarago River and Jindi Cheese. Unfortunately farm gate sales are not available but we do feature these cheeses as part of our cheese and antipasto platters.

The local butcher in Neerim South Jindi Pig offers juicy steaks and flavoursome local pork. All sourced from local farms. We are proud to offer Jindi Pig meat as part of our barbeque platter.

Art and Craft
Just up the road from us is Candalaraine Alpacas where you can see a fine range of award winning alpaca fashion garments. You can also feed the every hungry alpacas some of their favourite rose petals too!

In Neerim South you will find The Serigraph Gallery where Keith and Christine curate a wonderful selection of paintings, sculptures and furniture from local artists.

Pop in to see Laurie Collins and his fabulous sculpture garden just down the road from Jindivick. Laurie has kindly published a wine and art tourist trail that you can download from his website as a printable pdf that will guide you around the many attractions on offer nearby.

Bradley Hall, a renovated 1880s coach depot at 12 Old Telegraph Road, Drouin West is home to the gallery of internationally renowned artist Gary Miles
